BTWC Advisory Committee

Purpose

The Advisory Board serves as a strategic resource to the Coalition, providing guidance, expertise, community perspective, and thought partnership to support the organization's mission and long-term success. The Board is intended to bring together a diverse group of leaders, professionals, advocates, and community members who can help strengthen the Coalition's impact, expand its reach, and contribute to the development of a larger wellness ecosystem.


The Advisory Board is a non-governing body and does not have fiduciary, legal, or decision-making authority. Instead, it provides recommendations, insights, and connections that help inform the Coalition's strategies, programs, partnerships, and growth opportunities. The BTWC Executive team has the ability to change this as needed.


Scope of Responsibilities

The Advisory Board will:

  • Provide strategic guidance through input on organization priorities and emerging opportunities, serving as a sounding board for BTWC leadership team.

  • Identify opportunities to strengthen the BTWC’s collaboration across organizations and sectors;

  • Provide insight into the needs and experiences of the diverse communities and stakeholders involved and impacted by the coalition’s work.

  • Share expertise and best practices relevant to the BTWC’s mission.

  • Help identify opportunities for conferences, education, advocacy, public engagement, and similar.

  • Assist with identifying funding opportunities including grants, sponsorships, and events.

  • Offer constructive feedback on programs, projects, and initiatives


The initial projects that the Advisory Board will work on include:

  • Fundraising events, grants, other opportunities

  • Training opportunities and gaps that the coalition can address

  • Foster stronger connections between the trades and behavioral health services


Membership

The Advisory Board will consist of 7-15 members representing a diverse range of backgrounds, experiences, and expertise, including but not limited to:

  • Doctorate-level professional

  • Labor representative

  • Company representative

  • Fundraising and grant writing

  • Peer support representative

  • Administrative support

  • Community outreach

  • Education and programming

  • Safety Professional

  • Veteran


The Coalition will seek diversity across professional expertise, demographics, geography, lived experience, and community representation.


Term of Service

  • Members serve a two-year term, renewable by mutual agreement.

  • Terms will be staggered to maintain continuity and institutional knowledge. The first board will have a mix of 1-year, 2-year, and 3-year terms, to be followed by more regular 2-year terms.

  • Membership may be rescinded by either party with 30-day written notice.

  • Members may serve up to 4 terms.


Member Expectations

Robust, engaged Advisory Board members are expected to:

  • Support and champion the Coalition's mission, vision, and values.

  • Act in a manner that reflects the organization's commitment to mental health, wellness, inclusion, and community impact.

  • Attend at least 75% of scheduled Advisory Board meetings.

  • Participate actively in discussions and provide thoughtful feedback.

  • Review materials in advance of meetings when applicable.

  • Share relevant knowledge, experience, and professional perspectives.

  • Provide strategic advice and recommendations when requested.

  • Serve as a resource to Coalition leadership and staff.

  • Promote awareness of the Coalition's work within personal and professional networks.

  • Identify opportunities for funding, partnerships, collaboration, and community engagement.

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive organizational information.

  • Disclose any potential conflicts of interest.

  • Respect diverse perspectives and contribute to a culture of inclusion and collaboration.


Meetings

  • The Advisory Board will meet up to 6 times annually, with more as needed, either in person or virtually.

  • Additional meetings, working groups, or special sessions may be convened as needed.

  • Coalition leadership will work with the Advisory Board Chairs to provide meeting agendas and relevant materials in advance whenever possible.


Leadership and Administration

  • The Advisory Board will designate a Chair, Co-Chair, and a Recording Secretary to help facilitate meetings and serve as a liaison to Coalition leadership.

  • Coalition staff will provide administrative support, meeting coordination, and communication.

  • Recommendations made by the Advisory Board are advisory in nature and do not constitute organizational policy or governance decisions.


Success Measures

The effectiveness of the Advisory Board will be evaluated based on:

  • Quality and relevance of strategic guidance provided.

  • Contribution to organizational growth and innovation.

  • Development of meaningful partnerships and collaborations.

  • Support for mission advancement and community impact.

  • Engagement and participation of Advisory Board members.

  • Contributions toward building a stronger and more connected wellness ecosystem.

  1. Why you are interested in the board?

  2. What specific skills do you bring?

  3. What are your goals in serving on the board?

  4. Any lived experience in the trades, with mental health or substance misuse?


We aim to host our first Advisory Committee meeting by the end of Sept 2026.
