Worker Wellness Blog thru Feb 15, 2026

This week’s edition of our Worker Wellness blog looks at how prop bets are impacting young men here and abroad—to how obesity and sleep impact your brain’s health—to the Fahrenheit 451-like attacks on public library workers.

Focal Point: This week I wish to discuss with our readers a couple of stories that provide some rays of sunlight.

1) Earlier this past week, CPWR (the research arm of the AFL-CIO’s North American Building Trade Unions) published an uplifting report that revealed [1]:

            a. Construction industry overdose deaths decreased by ~29% from the previous year and

            b. Construction industry suicide deaths decreased by ~2% from the previous year.

PLEASE make no mistake, while these improvements are cause for celebrating the work WE have accomplished over the past decade, MORE still needs to be done!

2) Later last week, SLU hosted and Guarantee Electric sponsored STLBTWC’s first training session for 2026. It focused on Building Resilience. With over 40 participants in attendance, this topic ranked #1 from an audience survey in Sept 2025. Ironically, today’s blog provides 3 more related resources for those of you who may have missed us a few days ago.

            a. Resilience & Well-being @ Work [2]

            b. 20 Tips for Building Resilience [3]

            c. Workplace Resilience webinar [4]

Please mark your calendars for our next training session @ SLU on Workplace/Domestic Violence from 7:30-10a on Mar 26. ALL are welcome!
