Welcome to Week 2 of 2026! This edition of our Worker Wellness blog looks at yet another suicide death in the US construction industry—to a variety of tips on improving your health and reducing dementia risks—to the rising need for people who want to ‘work with their hands’.
This week I would like to focus on what the STL Building Trades Wellness Coalition is planning for 2026. As many of you may know, this effort began in Q3-2025. Wherein, we held 3 collaborative meetings. Interest grew from meeting to meeting by the measure of attendees: from 40 to 60 to 80. As we enter 2026, one of our goals is to hold quarterly meetings in the first month of each quarter: Jan, Apr, Jul, and Oct. These meetings are open to all comers from labor to management to agencies, and vendors. These will be more about the organization and its mission or, in other words, topics at the 30,000’ level. The first of these will be held on Jan 28 @ 8:30a at the LiUNA Local 110 Event Center (on Lindbergh near Gravois). A second goal is to hold follow-up meetings (actually trainings) in the in-between months that address a specific topic touched on at the quarterly meetings. These are not random topics but rather subjects that we received as feedback from the audience poll at our last event in 2025.
None of this happens without partners. In the past, we have had the support of Aetna and the Construction Forum. Going forward we are looking to also working with St. Louis University’s Center for Environmental Education and Training (CEET). The first of the specific topic trainings will be held on Feb 13 @7:30a at a CEET venue.[1] This will be a 2-hour (certificate) training on ‘building resilience’ in the workplace. Registration info is provided in the last section below.
Let’s start 2026 off with a Mental Health Safety focus…please consider joining us for the Jan collaborative meeting and the Feb training session.
