Worker Wellness Blog thru Jan 18, 2026

Welcome to Week 3 of 2026! This edition of our Worker Wellness blog looks at how the negative impact of sports gambling is damaging the image of college basketball—to the “DC Whiplash” sustained by many of our agencies providing much-needed mental health and substance misuse services within a recent 48-hour period—to how govt policies have caused generational damage to our Native American tribes and what one is doing in response.

This week I wish to highlight a few trainings listed in the “Upcoming webinars” section below.  The first one was held this past week by Mindspring and was called ‘Responding to a Mental Health Emergency. A recording of this 1-hour event is linked below.[1] I recently read an article in the IFEBP’s Benefits Magazine claiming 84% of our employees indicate that workplace conditions contributed to at least one mental health challenge. To this end, the aforementioned webinar is not only timely but very well done!

The second event will be held on Jan 21 @ Noon CT  and is also presented by Mindspring. It tackles an issue that our industry just CANNOT seem to resolve: Workplace Violence.[2] In light of the violent deaths of 2 tradeswomen (on and off the job) in Q4-2025, many of us in leadership MUST take action to prevent future tragedies. This is a FIRST step in a long journey…PLEASE join me!

Finally, the third webinar I would like to briefly discuss is scheduled for Feb 4 @ 10a CT. This one is offered by U of Iowa’s Healthier Workforce Center and is called ‘Supporting the Crew’.[3] This event will focus on the importance of Peer Support and how Peers are key to making a positive difference when it comes to our workers’ Mental Health…most importantly, Suicide Postvention in the US Construction Industry.
